I couldn’t go to Australia without seeing the Great Barrier Reef, so immediately after meditating, I jumped on a dive boat for a 3-day liveaboard excursion among 4 reefs of the GBR. After the 3 days, I felt comfortable in the water, and now ‘dive instructor’ is on my list of possible careers to explore once my travel time is over. My dive crew included a Speedo-clad South African (his blog here), a pair of Spaniards, a British guard named Tony, and several flirty dive instructors. In all, I did 10 dives and saw more coral than in a senior citizen pantsuit store. I really think ‘Great’ is selling itself short. It is one heck of a barrier reef. I might have to move back to Cairns because I felt a strong connection to this turtle I met there. His name is Ross.

In Australia, Speedos are called “budgie smugglers”.
